Frequently Asked Questions

What is medical infusion therapy?

Infusion therapy delivers FDA-approved medications, nutrients, and fluids directly into the bloodstream via a vein using intravenous (IV) access. It’s indicated when oral medications are inadequate or when precise, rapid administration is essential.

What conditions are treated via infusion?

We administer therapies for a range of medical conditions, including:

  • Autoimmune disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease)
  • Neurological and chronic pain conditions (e.g., multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, treatment-resistant depression with ketamine)
  • Severe deficiencies (e.g., iron-deficiency anemia, IV vitamin repletion)
  • Hydration and electrolyte imbalances—for example, during acute illness or post-exertion.
Is infusion therapy safe and effective?

Yes—when administered by an experienced licensed professional, infusion therapy is both safe and highly effective. We use sterile, single-use equipment and follow strict protocols—including pre-infusion vitals, continuous monitoring, and emergency medications on-site to treat infusion reactions.

Are the medications FDA approved?

All infusions utilize FDA-approved agents (e.g., biologics, intravenous anesthetics such as ketamine for anesthesia). Certain applications, like ketamine for depression, are off label but supported by robust clinical studies and administered within controlled protocols.

How do I prepare for an infusion appointment?

We advise that you:

  • Stay well-hydrated and get adequate rest
  • Avoid caffeine or excessive salt/alcohol before the session
  • Wear comfortable clothing and bring valid ID and insurance documents.
  • Please contact our nurse line at (518) 649‑8082, ext. 2 if you are currently taking or have taken any antibiotics in the past two weeks. In most cases, infusion therapy can still proceed—but a quick check ensures optimal safety and coordination.
How long will the infusion take?

Session duration ranges from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the specific medication, dosing, and individual tolerance.  When we book your appointment, our staff will let you know how long to expect.

Can I eat or drink during the infusion?

Most infusions permit light snacks and beverages. You're welcome to bring your own, and we also offer complimentary refreshments—including water, coffee, tea, juice, crackers, and light snacks.

Is the infusion process painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort—often just a quick pinch upon needle insertion. We use tools like vein‑finders and numbing agents to maximize comfort.

What if I have a reaction during infusion?

Your safety is our priority. We utilize drug protocol and maintain emergency medications at the chairside. Should an infusion reaction occur, we respond immediately under physician guidance.

What are the potential side effects or complications?

Your ordering / prescribing physician will review the possible side effects based on the drug prescribed. Side effects can include:

  • Mild bruising or swelling at the IV site
  • Phlebitis (vein inflammation)
  • Fatigue
How often will I need infusions?

Treatment frequency varies by diagnosis—for example, biologics may be administered every 4–8 weeks, ketamine typically involves 3–6 weeks, followed by maintenance dosing tailored to your needs.

Will my insurance cover infusion therapy?

Coverage depends on your specific plan and the prescribed medication. We will perform a benefit verification and prior authorizations, and will provide cost estimates at the time of booking your appointment.  Cost share is due at the time of service.

Wellness treatments are not covered by insurance plans.
